Requirements

Requirements depend on college and program chosen by the student. Different colleges have different requirements and students should get detailed information about that, there are certain criteria which students need to satisfy prior to their admission. Those are as follows:

Entrance test is the first criteria a student needs to satisfy before getting admission in any of the college in Canada, these tests are standardized and students should consider taking this exam seriously and perform well in it. One can appear for these exams more than once. A copy of the results of exam is send directly to college chosen by students and one copy is to be kept by the student.

Below given are some of the common entrance exams.

TOEFL (Test of English as a foreign language): Colleges require TOEFL as criteria for admission process for international students. Students must achieve a good score in this test for getting an admission, TOEFL is held throughout the year and usually on weekends.

IELTS: This entrance test is accepted widely by the Universities in Canada and the test is conducted for checking the English language skills, the test consists of four modules: Writing, Listening, Speaking and Reading

GRE (Graduate record exam): GRE is for checking the preparation of a student to enter a Graduate program. This test include:

  • General Test: It is required for admission in a Graduate program, it tests student on basis of verbal, quantitative and analytical skills.
  • GRE Writing Assessment test: This test is offered as a separate test irrespective of General test.

GMAT(General management aptitude test ): To get admission in business and management study programs like M.B.A, this test is required, this test checks verbal, mathematical and analytical writing skills.

SAT (Scholastic aptitude test): SAT is conducted by Educational testing service (ETS) and is mainly for the undergraduate courses, this test is like ATS. Sat exam consists of:

  • SAT I: The test consists of multiple choice reasoning questions measuring students verbal and mathematical abilities.
  • SAT II: It consists of multiple choice tests. In specific, the test measures the capability and knowledge of a particular subject, it is recommended by many colleges to take one or more test like this.

MCAT (Medical college admission test): MCAT entrance exam is meant for admission in Medical programs, it tests the ability of a student and gives opportunity to capable students to get good college and show their excellence in the field. This Test includes critical thinking, problem solving and writing skills irrespective of the knowledge of medical field.

LSAT (Law school admission test): This entrance test is conducted for students who want to pursue law degree programs. Test includes reading and verbal reasoning skills

GPA(Grade point average marks) : GPA is a criteria which students need to satisfy before getting an admission, in this system all Grades are averaged which a student has achieved up to high school. The grading scheme range from A to f, A signifies excellence whereas F indicates fail .GPA is considered at the time of student’s job selection as many employers compare the GPA acquired by different candidates to select the one having greater ability.

Letter of recommendations & essays: The Admission committee also selects candidate based on their Essay. Students should write a good essay and should keep a word limit of 500. Letter of recommendation is also required at the time of admission and should be duly recommended from the institute the student attends last. Getting a letter of recommendation from a teacher or professor who knows them personally is preferred more by the selectors in Universities.

A student needs a study permit for studying & living in Canada which serves as a visa for the duration of stays there, if the duration of the course is not more than 6 months then it is not required. A student permit has to be renewed after some period of time.

Summary for List of Documentation compulsorily required for getting visa:

  • Letter of acceptance from the University which has offered student admission.
  • Valid passport.
  • Complete application form for Study permit.
  • Latest Passport size photographs
  • Proof of application fee in acceptable format.
  • Valid documentation of student’s financial proofs.
  • An Explanation letter showing student’s interest to continue with other University program after completing their short term courses.
