Requirements

Each university in the U.S has its own international student entry requirements. The minimum requirements are standardized tests like the TOEFL and SAT which varies from institution to institution. International students aspiring to study in the U.S will be required to take the TOEFL and SAT I tests. Some universities also require the SAT II. There are many institutions that will accept the ACT in place of the SAT I.

 

TOEFL

In most parts of the world, the TOEFL is a computer-based test. In some areas, paper-based testing is also available.Colleges require TOEFL as criteria for admission process for international students. Students must achieve a good score in this test for getting admission.

SAT

There are two versions of the SAT test. The SAT I is the called the Intellectual Test and is designed to evaluate students mathematical and verbal skills. It consists mostly of MCQ’s

The SAT II contains 22 separate tests called Subject Tests. Each subject test covers a specific area.These tests are designed to determine a student’s level of knowledge in each area and the ability to apply that knowledge to answer questions.

ACT

The ACT is a subject-based test, rather than an ability or aptitude test.It is made up of multiple-choice questions covering four areas: English, Reading, Mathematics and Scientific reasoning.

GRE (Graduate record exam)

GRE checks the preparation of a student to enter in a Graduate program like Masters or Doctoral. This test includes a general test and a GRE writing Assessment test.

The U.S welcomes international citizens who come to study in America. Before applying for a visa, all applicants are required to be accepted and approved by the university. Once a student is accepted, educational institutions provide each applicant the necessary approval documentation to be submitted when applying for a student visa.

Visa Description and qualification

F-1Visa
This is the most common type of student visa. If a student wishes to engage in academic studies in the U.S at an approved university then you need an F-1 visa. Students will also need an F-1 visa if course of study is more than 18 hours a week.

M-1 Visa
students who plan to engage in non-academic or vocational study or training at a U.S. institution then an M-1 visa is required.
